Dry Needling at Chiropractic First

needling

Our chiropractors are all trained in the clinical application of “Dry Needling.”

Dry needling is also referred to as myofascial dry needling, and refers to the use of sterile one use acupuncture needles. Its primary application is in the treatment of muscular trigger points (“knots”) within muscle, that create nociceptive (pain) based stimulus into the central nervous system. Dry needling elicits a local twitch response, which is an involuntary spinal cord reflex. The muscle fibres contract, and the needle remains in the muscle for s few minutes until the trigger point releases. It is often very useful for muscles that are layered, or whereby the muscle that is dysfunctional is deep to the superficial muscle. This allows therapeutic treatment of specific muscles without aggravating others that are not part of the clinical presentation.

Dry needling is often used in conjunction with other techniques, and not often used in isolation. Application is based upon diagnosis, medical history, individual requirements, risks and patient consent. If you have further questions, please call or email Chiropractic First.
